Where are the homes built?

How much do the homes cost?

The cost of construction of the homes we typically fund are $3,300. The home is simple, yet solid. They include a water filter system, high efficient wood-burning stove, a bunk bed and, additionally, a bag of groceries as a housewarming gift.

Who pays the cost of the homes?

When someone aligns with the organization, they commit to sponsoring homes and raising funds for the construction of each through their dedicated campaigns. Once a campaign reaches its target goal, a home is funded and the campaign starts over.

Who builds the homes?

We are partnering with organizations that are registered non-profits in Guatemala and have 501(c)(3) status in the United States to manage all of the construction. We do this to help provide jobs to local Guatemalans instead of relying on volunteers from abroad.

How can I support Home for a Home?

Home for a Home relies heavily on caring individuals like you. Donating to our organization provides stability and sustainability to ensure our mission of building homes continues well into the future. 

Homes are funded by campaigners, who commit to raising funds to sponsor a home. These funds are restricted for that purpose, with a minimal percentage going to the organization to cover the admin fees of monitoring each campaign.

Is it possible to help build a home?

Build trips are reserved for those who register to fundraise for a home, also known as ”members,” and their guests. While we wish we could bring everyone, the build trips are designed specifically to bring together those who have committed to helping fundraise for homes..

How will I know when a home I funded has been built?

We love this question. When a home is built, we create a report about the family and social media materials that are provided to the “member,” who we hope will be sharing the information with their supporters.

Can I meet the family who received a home I funded?

There are two ways this could happen:

1. Through the reports issued when a home is completed.

2. On each build trip, we take a day to visit families who have received a home. We cannot ensure that we will meet the family you sponsored, but we will try to accommodate when possible.
